Transcript for "Using the Internet"

My PC's quite old. I've had it since I was at university which was in 1988. But I only use it for writing short stories, articles for magazines and I know how it works and I like that, I'm comfortable with it. Erm, it's a period piece I suppose, you know, people wouldn't buy one now. Erm, because it's very slow, I can't use CD Roms or anything and I certainly couldn't get connected to the Internet. But it's, it works for me so that's OK. The only real problem is that I get a really bad back if I work too long.

Well, I'm a journalist so I spend a lot of time working but not in an office. Erm, I spend a lot of time travelling. So I've got a laptop, a laptop computer, and erm, it's great. I use it mostly for word-processing and writing articles and occasionally for, for e-mail and chat on the Internet. Erm, I really like the fact that it's portable, it's very easy to, to carry it around. I love having e-mail and chat and Internet connection, it feels like a real status symbol. Erm, I suppose the only problem is that I travel around a lot and use my laptop but obviously I can't print when I'm travelling, when I'm on the road, so that would be the only problem.

Well I've got one of those modern multimedia PCs which I use at home for surfing the net and sending e-mails. Erm, it's a very powerful computer and it's got excellent graphics and the sound quality is very high. Erm, and my kids use it a lot for playing their games on. The problems with it are that it crashes from time to time and it's slow to start up. And also it has a lot of features that frankly I don't need. The other possible problem is that my kids love it and they're always using it and I don't have much time myself on it.

Well erm, I'm a manager, I work in quite a large office and we use new Pentium PCs. Erm, we use them mainly for spreadsheets and e-mail and so on. And erm, I've got my Personal Information Manager, erm, which I, connected to, to my computer. Erm, I also use it for looking at the Web. One of the things I like about it is that it saves so much time, they're so efficient. Erm, one of the things I don't like about it is that you get so much e-mail and junk mail on the computers. And well, I don't feel very technologically-minded, I'm always having to ask my secretary to help me. They're so complicated, computers.
