Welcome to the Interactive English FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page. This is the place to find answers to your questions and help with using each section. Click on the sections below for helpful information.



 

Technical Information (Hardware/Software)

- What sort of computer do I need?
You need a PC with Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000. You also need a sound card and microphone, a modem and a connection to the Internet. You may also need a printer if you want to print exercises. At the moment Interactive English does not function on Macintosh computers or other operating systems.

- What software do I need?
You need an Internet browser (Netscape or Microsoft Explorer), email software (Eudora or Outlook Express) and some chat software (Netmeeting, mIRC or ICQ).

- Where can I get the software?
You can find all the software on our Software Download page

The Office

- What is the Office?
The Office is the centre of the school - here you'll find all the information you need about the school.

- How do I get to the Office?
You can always get there by clicking on the back to the office icon on the left of the screen.

- Who can visit the Office?
This area of the school is open to everyone.

- What can I do in in the Office?
You can access the classrooms, look at the Teacher and Student Cardfiles, and get general information about Interactive English.

- When do I visit the Office?
You visit it when you want general information about the school, the courses, to find out What's New at the school, etc.

The Library

- What is the Library?
The Library is like a normal library. There are links to books, magazines, audio sites, newspapers and more on the Internet. A lot of the things in the Library are connected with the themes of our courses.

- How do I get to the Library?
You can always get to the Library by clicking on the Library icon on the left of the screen.

- What can I do in the Library?
You can read novels and magazines, listen to recordings and watch videos. You can also look at grammar references, encyclopedia and other reference books.

- When do I visit the Library?
You visit the library when you want to do extra study during the course.

The Cafe

- What is the Cafe?
The Cafe is part of the Virtual School. It is a place to relax and have fun while you're studying with Interactive English.

- How do I get to the Cafe?
You can always get to the Cafe by clicking on the icon on the left of the screen.

- What can I do in the Cafe?
You can chat with other students, read magazines and newspapers and play games. You can also write for the Interactive English Student Magazine.

- When do I visit the Cafe?
Visit the Cafe when you want to relax and take a break and when you want to talk to other students in the school.

The Teachers' Room

- What is in the Teachers' Room?
The Teachers' Room is where the Interactive English teachers meet. There are Teacher Profiles, Noticeboards and notes and extra material.

- How do I get to the Teachers' Room?
You can always get to the Teachers' Room by clicking on the Teachers' Room icon on the left of the screen.

- What can I do in the Teachers' Room?
You can contact IHNL staff to talk about general problems related to your course. You can also look at the Teacher Profiles and find information about your tutor.

- When do I visit the Teachers' Room?
You go to the Teachers' Room when you want to talk to IHNL staff.

Problems, Problems..

- What happens if I have any problems doing the course?
You talk to your teacher. If it is a problem to do with the work that you are doing, they will be able to help you.

- Is there a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for technical problems?
Yes, in the Virtual Library. This will probably answer many questions that you have during the course, for example if you have any problems listening to sound files, or installing software.

- Who do I contact if I have technical problems to do with the course?
Your teacher. If they can't help they will ask one of the Interactive English technical support team to contact you and help you find a solution.
